The slave trade port is preserved as a historical place for people to learn about its history. The planning small town has is interesting.

The tall buildings are built to create shade for the streets. The buildings are also closely built to each other for the breeze from the sea to circulate in the town longer. This an exciting concept. The town has spots where locals meet to socialize and enjoy each other’s company—for example, a bar where they enjoy sports broadcast on television. The stone town also offers a beautiful sight of the sunset. If you love nature and sunsets, trust me this is a place for you to be. The people of Stone Town also welcome visitors by putting up a show for them. This is a very interesting way to see and appreciate their culture.

Nakupenda Island. Nakupenda means I love you in English. It is the closest island to the stone town. It takes about 20-25mins to get to Nakupenda Island on locally made boats. The waters become clear and beautiful as you journey from Stone Town to Nakupenda.

The sandbank of Nakupenda Island gets covered during the high tides, but it is still a safe place to spend time and visit. Nakupenda is a place for various activities. Just imagine a wedding on this beautiful island. Trust me it would be magical. You can host parties on the island. Just enjoy nature on this glorious island. Another Island to visit is Prison Island. The prison island was originally called Changuu Island, and it was named after a species of fish found around the island. It got the name Prison Island after a while when a prison was being built on the island but wasn’t completed. The ruins of the prison infrastructure are still there for tourists to see.

One of the biggest tortoises can be found on this island. The Aldabra tortoise. They were brought to the island from Seychelles as a gift in the 19th century by the governor of Seychelles. You get to see these creatures in their natural habitat and how they interact with each other. It’s a very interesting island and a lot of fun.
