Tanzania Eases Visa Process for Nigerians, Removes Referral Visa Requirement
Tanzania has eased its visa process for Nigerians after removing Nigerian nationals from its Referral Visa Category. Tanzania Immigration Services Department spokesperson Paul Mselle confirmed that Nigerians can now apply through the standard visa process without the additional immigration clearance that was previously required. The change took effect following amendments published in Government Gazette No. 246 of 2026.
Previously, Nigerians applying under the referral system had to provide host information and supporting documents and wait for additional approval before travelling. The removal means Nigerian travelers can now use Tanzania's standard visa application process through the official immigration portal or designated entry points.
What Does This Mean for Nigerian Travelers?
Nigerians no longer need the additional referral clearance that previously applied to them. They can now submit eVisa applications online through the official Tanzania Immigration portal, while visa on arrival is available to eligible travelers at major entry points, including Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam, subject to the applicable requirements.
Tanzania has become an increasingly popular destination among Nigerians, particularly following the high public interest in the marriage of Nigerian actress Priscillia Ojo and Tanzanian musician Juma Jux. With the visa process now easier, Tanzania could attract even more Nigerian travelers during the festive season.
