Murtala Muhammed International Airport Records Fastest Growth in Africa in September
Whenever international travel in Nigeria comes up, Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos comes to mind. As Nigeria’s commercial hub and a major gateway for international travelers, developments at the airport can have a direct impact on Nigerian travelers.

According to OAG African Aviation Market Data, MMIA recorded 470,000 scheduled airline seats in September, making it the fastest growing international airport among Africa’s 10 largest airports.

Nigeria also recorded the fastest capacity growth, adding 322,800 scheduled airline seats, a 37.4% increase from last year’s 864,100 seats.

Why should you care as a Nigerian traveler?

The increase in flight capacity could give Nigerian travelers better chances of finding a suitable flight, especially during peak travel periods such as summer, Christmas and Easter when demand is usually high.

More capacity does not only mean airlines are putting larger aircraft on routes. It can also mean more flight frequencies, giving travelers more departure times and, consequently, more options when choosing a flight from Lagos.

Overall, the growth is positive news for Nigerian travelers and another indication of the continued growth of Nigeria’s aviation market.
